BayView Gallery Night

Next Friday, June 6th from 5PM-10PM we will be open along with other spaces in the Hide House for the spring edition of BayView Gallery night. We will be featuring guest encaustic wax artist Rebecca Stahr, watercolorist Cherilynn Wood and landscape watercolors by myself , the work of  potter Ramie Camarena, jewelry by Rebecca Ruddat. We also will feature soap by Alexandre Hill of Northern Aura.

There is also plenty going on outside of our walls. Check out all the happenings at and map out a night of art, jazz and feel the artistic vibe of the burgeoning Bayview art scene!

A peek at my workspace

Here's a look inside my studio. I just rearranged it a few weeks back and it still could use a little tweak here and there, but for the most part it's a cozy space to create art.

Recent Figure Drawing

I have taken figure drawing seriously ever since I was a student at American Academy of Art in Chicago. Once I took my first basic figure drawing class at school, I understood that it was core of any artists drawing education. I have wanted to coordinate a figure drawing session and create a place for artists to come draw and continue their growth through drawing the figure. This is a 25 minute pose ( kudos to the model, Sarah for holding this pose perfectly for that amount of time!) done in Wolff Carbon pencil.

Recent Watercolor Landscapes

These are a couple of current watercolor landscapes that I completed recently. I did a series of eight new pieces for the opening at Haven Art Center. I will be posting the pieces on Fine Art America and in my Etsy store this week. I will post when the paintings are up.

Poor Neglected Blog.

We have been so busy setting up shop with Haven Art Center that I haven't posted anything here in a long while. I also lost my domain name at the end of the year, someone snuck in at stole it before I could renew it. One crummy week and I lost it to someone. I kind of feel like Go-Daddy did some of it's naughty double dealing on that.

I am now going with a new name, instead of continuing with the BlogSpot name.

We officially opened Haven Art Center April 26th during Milwaukee's Third Ward Gallery night and are busy letting the community know we are here. We have had figure drawing every Wednesday night and have already gathered a small group of regulars who are eager to draw every week.

I will be posting more art and thoughts here now that we have settled into the space. There is a lot going on and it should be shared. Haven is at the center of it all now, so if you are curious to see what is happening there, please check out our website.

I will be posting some current work shortly and will be making regular posts moving forward. Enjoy the holiday weekend!

Haven Art Center ( or our new year and new direction)

Everyone has been talking about their new hopes and plans this year and all the while we have been keeping ours close to the vest. Now we can talk a little bit about them.

The last couple of months have been a time of change for me and my wife Cherilynn; we have come to a crossroads and have had to make some big life changes. We left our beloved Chicago a few weeks ago and have returned to Milwaukee. We didn't do that for the icy treatment we received upon arrival, we came with a plan.

Way back when Cherilynn and I had our first date we hatched this plan together to have a studio/frame shop/ class for private art instruction, and a place where I can have open figure drawing and portrait sessions. Our own art center. We did make an attempt to start the endeavor on a small scale about seven years ago, but circumstance and other callings begged us to take a different direction. We had an art studio at the Hide House in the Bayview neighborhood of Milwaukee for a year and decided to go in a different direction.

Now, here we are all these years later, we just secured a space in The Hide House again and we are excited to announce the coming of our new endeavor; Haven Art Center. It truly felt like coming home today when we got the key to the studio.

We are just in the beginning stages and there is a lot of work to be done to get the center started. We will be putting the word out as we hope to involve artists and creative folks in this adventure. Because what we are working to accomplish is building a place that will nurture and grow the creative spirit within ourselves and other artists.
